According to Chinese medicine, the lungs are affected by both anxiety and grief. If a client is suffering from these emotions, then particular attention will be given to these reflexes on the feet during reflexology.

Massage is great for easing muscle tension and an Australian study found it could lower levels of cortisol and improve quality of life. While you can't always control what's going on in your life, you can bolster yourself to help your body cope better with the effects of pressure. In stressful times, why not book yourself in for a weekly massage?

Posture and stress

Posture is all-important in handling stress. 'The body-to-mind connection is as important as mind-body. It has been proven in studies that emotions can be changed, simply by making small adjustments to your form. Make yourself bigger by standing tall and opening out your shoulders. You'll feel more confident and less stressed'. Bonetti.

History of reflexology

Ancient history indicates that reflexology was originally practised in Egypt, India and China. Around 2330BC the tomb of Ankhmahor was built in Egypt and a wall painting, thought to show men ptactising reflexology on feet, can still be seen in the pyramid. The tomb belonged to an Egyptian physician who was second only to the king. The inscription is thought to read, 'Don't hurt me', and the practicioner replies, 'I shall act so you praise me'.
Taken from Francesca Gould's 'Reflexology for holistic therapists' which I strongly recommend to those interested in learning about reflexology as a good base point.

Nails that split

As we age, our nails do dry out and lose the natural oils that act as glue and hold the nail layers together. With thin fingernails and dry skin you can expect to notice this happening sooner rather than later. We advise you use a good hand cream and cuticle oil every day to replenish moisture loss. Oil based products are best because they penetrate into skin quickly.

The spine supports the weight of the body. If someone is suffering with back problems, this may be due to the fact that they feel that they are not getting enough support from people at that time.

According to traditional Chinese medicine, the lungs and skin are linked, e.g. people who have asthma may also suffer with eczema.

Reflexology aims to rebalance, stimulate the blood flow and de-stress the body. It helps to balance the output of hormones so helpful for many hormone-related conditions.
If the menstrual cycle is irregular due to the effects of stress, reflexology can help to regulate periods, balancing and maintaining homeostasis, and de-stressing the body.
