According to Chinese medicine, the lungs are affected by both anxiety and grief. If a client is suffering from these emotions, then particular attention will be given to these reflexes on the feet during reflexology. |

Ancient history indicates that reflexology was originally practised in Egypt, India and China. Around 2330BC the tomb of Ankhmahor was built in Egypt and a wall painting, thought to show men ptactising reflexology on feet, can still be seen in the pyramid. The tomb belonged to an Egyptian physician who was second only to the king. The inscription is thought to read, 'Don't hurt me', and the practicioner replies, 'I shall act so you praise me'. Taken from Francesca Gould's 'Reflexology for holistic therapists' which I strongly recommend to those interested in learning about reflexology as a good base point. |

The spine supports the weight of the body. If someone is suffering with back problems, this may be due to the fact that they feel that they are not getting enough support from people at that time. |

Reflexology aims to rebalance, stimulate the blood flow and de-stress the body. It helps to balance the output of hormones so helpful for many hormone-related conditions. If the menstrual cycle is irregular due to the effects of stress, reflexology can help to regulate periods, balancing and maintaining homeostasis, and de-stressing the body. |

The feet can be thought of as mirroring the body and so the organs and glands etc. can be mapped onto the feet. The left foot mirrors the left side of the body and the right foot reflects the right side of the body. |

The feet - 'the very roots of our being' Holistic is a term derived from the Greek word 'holos', meaning 'whole'. Reflexologists treat the whole body; they do not generally work on one specific organ or system. They treat the symptoms and also aim to treat the cause. They aim to restore balance and harmony to the whole body, taking into account the individual's mind, body and spirit. |
